USACE Galveston District recognized for employing environmental principles in engineering projects
GALVESTON, Texas (April 6, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District was selected as one of two "Proving Grounds" for the USACE Engineering with Nature Program (EWN) for its efforts to manage engineering projects in a sustainable manner, one which leaves behind the smallest footprint, while collaborating with partners to identify ways to reduce, mitigate or eliminate potential negative impacts.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeking public comments on its draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for Trestle Bay Restoration Project. The public comment period ends April 11, 2015.

Environmental report on proposed dike repairs available for review
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has released an environmental report for public review on its proposal for additional embankment repairs on Herbert Hoover Dike surround Lake Okeechobee. The report, known as an environmental assessment and draft finding of no significant impact focuses on a Corps proposal to extend embankment repairs in a six-mile area between Lake Harbor and Belle Glade on the south side of the lake. The document will be available for a 60-day review, with comments accepted until May 10.

SHEP and the Savannah River – a Wrap-up
Environmental stewardship remains a top focus of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project. Deepening the Savannah harbor will impact the ecosystem of the estuary and conditions in the river all the way to the base of the Thurmond Dam north of Augusta, Georgia.

Proposed Record of Decision Amendment released for Shallow Land Disposal Area
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District has released a Notice of Availability and Proposed Record of Decision Amendment for the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) in Parks Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. The Proposed ROD Amendment document is available for public comment from January 5, 2014 until February 4, 2015 and may be viewed at http://1.usa.gov/1xvZrBH

Updates on the Savannah River Basin Comprehensive and Flood Storage studies
In October 2013 we announced an initiative to assess our flood storage capacity to test the possibility of reducing our current flood storage allotment. More specifically, the study will provide information that will better define the present need for flood storage in the basin. In the announcement we estimated the study would take approximately 12 months. Based on recent updates from the Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC), the organization conducting most of the study, the results will be delayed about six more months.

VDOT, FHWA, USACE sign, release draft SEIS for Route 460 project
VDOT, FHWA and USACE signed the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on the Route 460 Corridor Improvements Project Sept. 18 and released it for public comment.
