  • Army Corps taking action to repair area of collapsed channel wall along Codorus Creek

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, is working expeditiously on an emergency contract to help stabilize an approximately 20-foot-wide section of channel wall immediately upstream of the Philadelphia Street Bridge that collapsed into Codorus Creek Thursday due to heavy rainfall over the last week.

  • Army Corps awards contract to repair the Shoalwater Bay Barrier Dune near Tokeland

    In an effort to help protect the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, awarded a contract to repair a sand barrier dune in Willapa Bay near the Shoalwater Bay Indian Reservation. The contract was awarded to Manson Construction Corp of Seattle, Washington.

  • Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, community partner to find way forward for Neabsco Creek

    The Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers met April 26 with staff from federal and state congressional offices, local marina owners and the Prince William County Board of Supervisors to discuss the future of Neabsco Creek, following navigational concerns. The meeting was part of an on-going effort amongst federal, state, and community partners to address the safety, commercial and recreational interests in Neabsco Creek.

    On March 12, 2018, crews from the Army Corps' drift collection DRIFTMASTER participated in an operation to recover a downed helicopter that crashed into the East River on Sunday, March 11, 2018. The operation was conducted in support of the Army Corps' agency partners: New York City Police Department Harbor Unit, New York City Fire Department Marine Bureau, and the U.S. Coast Guard Sector, N.Y.

  • Army Corps, Susquehanna River Basin Commission partner to provide data to FEMA to revise flood maps in Pennsylvania

    March 9, 2017, marked the Susquehanna River Basin Commission’s first day in the field on Swatara Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River in east central Pennsylvania, for a project in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, to provide information to the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region III that will help FEMA update their flood risk maps.

  • Environmental Releases from Whitney Point Lake, N.Y. Occur for the First Time (Issued by SRBC)

    In accordance with a cooperative agreement to provide drought relief, “environmental releases” occurred for several days in September and October from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Whitney Point Lake project in Broome County, N.Y. These releases provide benefits to the in-stream environment downstream of Whitney Point during low-flow or drought conditions by modifying the amount of water released from the reservoir, as well as the timing of these releases.

  • Final report released analyzing sediment and pollution flow impacts to Chesapeake Bay from Conowingo Dam

    The final Lower Susquehanna River Watershed Assessment (LSRWA) report is now available. The draft report was released for public comment Nov. 13, 2014. The report concludes that following through on the blueprint to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries will have a much greater and longer-lasting effect on water quality than addressing the Conowingo Dam's reduced capacity to trap sediment. However, if the additional nutrient and sediment load impacts from the Conowingo Dam are not addressed, Bay water-quality standards will not be met by 2025 in three mid-Bay segments - even with full watershed implementation plan achievement.
