(Sept. 16, 2016) – Corps of Engineers employees shared their experiences and expertise with students today for Science and Engineering Day at Stratford STEM Magnet High School where they received information about careers in hydropower, navigation, natural resources, water management and emergency operations.

Students connect with Corps emergency managers on Patriot Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2015) – Students at Stratford STEM Magnet High School can’t recall where they were when the towers of the World Trade Center fell on 9-11; they were just babies, toddlers or not even born yet. Fourteen years later they spent Patriot Day touring a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Emergency Command and Control Vehicle and learning about that fateful day from a Corps member who deployed to Pier 90 in Manhattan, N.Y., in the wake of the attack.

Nashville teachers develop STEM curriculum through Corps externships

(June 9, 2015) – Local high school teachers are using externships with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to develop a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics class curriculum . It will reflect real world situations a student might encounter in as a science or engineering professional.

STEM freshmen learn their lesson at Old Hickory Dam

(March 7, 2014) – More than 20 ninth graders from Stratford STEM Magnet High School received educational lessons about water management on the Cumberland River and its tributaries, ecosystems for big rivers and small streams, hydropower operations, navigation and water safety on a field trip Feb. 27 at Old Hickory Dam.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 28, 2013) – Local high school teachers are using externships with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to create class curriculum that will challenge students and encourage them to investigate, explore, experiment, problem solve, create and invent.
