    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, announces Spillway Maintenance Project at the Cowanesque Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, which oversees operations of the Cowanesque Lake Project, located in Tioga County, Penn. and lies on the Cowanesque River near Lawrenceville, Penn. is set to begin a construction project to enhance the spillway infrastructure at Cowanesque Dam. The spillway is a feature of the dam that was constructed in the late 1970s as an emergency overflow discharge for the lake, which runs approximately 1,200 linear feet. Since its construction, the spillway has never seen flow.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District adjusts Steele Bayou structure gates to address changing MS River conditions and minimize flooding in Yazoo basin, Prepares for flood fighting efforts as stages rise

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – In response to rising water levels on the Mississippi River, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District closed the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure Tuesday, April 8th at 4 pm. Due to changing conditions on the Mississippi River and the river slowing its rise, the gates at Steele Bayou Drainage Structure have been reopened today, April 9th, to allow more water to flow out of the lower Yazoo basin. It is anticipated that the gates will close again; however, we are taking this welcome opportunity to get as much water out of the basin as possible.

    The updated 2025 calendar year runoff forecast for the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa, continues to be below average. March runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City was 2.3 million acre-feet, 76% of average.

    Hurricane Helene Debris removal officially completed during signing ceremony

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management and the contractor, AshBritt, Inc., met in Valdosta, Georgia, Monday, April 7, 2025, to sign final documentation signifying the completion of eligible debris removal in Lowndes County, the last of 10 counties supported within Georgia.

    UPDATE: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District activates 24-hour surveillance at Arkabutla Dam following heavy rainfall

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Recent storms have resulted in substantial rainfall in northwest Mississippi, including in the Arkabutla Lake drainage basin, pushing the lake's water levels above 225 feet, with an expected peak of 230 feet on April 11, 2025. Pool levels at Arkabutla Dam, which straddles DeSoto and Tate Counties in Northwest Mississippi, can fluctuate quickly, particularly during the rainy season.
