Marina del Rey dredging benefits boater safety and port redevelopment
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began a $13 million dredging project April 5 that will remove up to one million cubic yards of accumulated sand from the entrance channel to Marina del Rey Harbor, improving navigational safety and providing material for use at several other locations.

ERDC successfully demos autonomous unmanned technology
A recent demonstration in support of the Safe Operations of Unmanned Systems for Reconnaissance in Complex Environments (SOURCE) Army Technology Objective (ATO) proved successful for ERDC researchers and their simulation environment for autonomous unmanned ground vehicles.

Bird population modeling protects Plovers, sustains military mission
"Snowbirds" is a nickname that popularly describes northerners who enjoy the warmth of winters in Florida. The same holds true for a diversity of birds that migrate to Florida and places further south. These real snowbirds, such as Snowy and Piping Plovers, are benefitting from ERDC team members' environmental recommendations for coastal military installations.

The ERDC Environmental Laboratory (EL) recently hosted an interagency workshop on contaminated sediments that brought together more than 30 scientists and engineers from the Navy, Environmental Protection Agency, and ERDC's EL and Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL).

GSL's live fire evaluations of structures for department of state
ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory's (GSL) Survivability Engineering Branch recently performed full-scale evaluations of a Modular Guard Tower System (MGTS) and a Hardened Alternative Trailer System (HATS) at Eglin and Tyndall Air Force Bases, respectively.
