    Through a partnership between U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, mussels were cultivated in Burnsville Lake and Sutton Lake within West Virginia. In May, multiple cages were placed with fish infested with larval mussels within the lake.

  • PSA: CARTERS LAKE ANNOUNCES SEASONAL CLOSURES

    MOBILE, Ala. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District announces seasonal adjustments to the operating schedule at Carters Lake recreation sites. The Carters Lake Visitor Center hours of operation are changing. From November 1 - April 14, the Visitor Center will be open Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. From April 15 - October 31, the Visitor Center will be open Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Rathbun Lake to implement new reservation policy

    CENTERVILLE, IA. --The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rathbun Lake has announced a new reservation policy for the 2020 recreation season. Beginning May 1, 2020 all sites in Island View, Bridge View and Prairie Ridge Parks will be 100% reserveable. This will result in several changes for campers at Corps of Engineers managed parks at Rathbun Lake.
  • Summersville Volunteers Recognized for 2016 Flood Recovery Efforts

    In late June 2016, Summersville Lake reached its 2nd highest pool of record in history. The drainage basin received nearly 5-7 inches of rain in less than a 12 hour period. The entire project was evacuated, including a corps managed campground, a concessionaire campground, marina, day use areas in only about 6 hours as the lake elevation climbed 42 feet in the next 48 hours.
  • CORPS LIFTS SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR ARKANSAS RIVER

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Army Corps of Engineers has lifted the small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. Advisories are issued when flows reach 70,000 cubic feet per second. Even though flows have receded below that threshold, Corps officials urge boaters to always use caution when on the river.
