Teamwork brings power to Plaquemines Parish
Members of the Memphis District Emergency Power Planning and Response Team worked together Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, with local authorities in Plaquemines Parish, the Louisiana Army National Guard, the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) and contractor IAP to airlift an emergency generator. The 125 kilowatt generator was sling-loaded by the Louisiana Air National Guard and placed on top of a water storage tank at the Port Sulphur (Louisiana) Water Plant. Our 249th Prime Power Soldiers were on-site to assist with the placement of the generator, and then they installed the generator to power the storage pumps. The Port Sulphur facility provides fresh drinking water to the entire area by pulling water from the Mississippi River.
