    California today became the 40th state to join the national Silver Jackets disaster coordination program. The program is designed to improve coordination, collaboration and communication among disaster-response agencies at all levels of government before a disaster strikes to hasten recovery.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District deployed a mobile command center –the deployable tactical operations system, or DTOS – to Aurora, Colo., Sept. 14 to assist in the federal government’s response to severe flooding throughout the state.

    $2.4 million contract awarded Aug. 31, for work on Levee 37 that extends from Euclid Avenue to Palatine Road. This contract includes small closure structures for pipes crossing the line of protection - adding 135 feet of floodwall along Milwaukee Avenue and closing a regulated 600-foot gap in the levee, following construction completion of compensatory storage. Work will benefit residents of Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights, Ill.

The Corps gives the award yearly to individuals who excel in the field of flood plain management, which plans for and identifies ways at controlling and reducing flood damages experienced by citizens living in flood plains.
