  • Corps Engineers from Philadelphia District rappel, inspect Wolf Creek Dam

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (July 25, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Special Rope Access Climb Team is one of three specialized inspection teams USACE uses for inspection purposes that travels to a variety of locations offering districts specific support tailored to the project needs. The team recently rapelled and lowered themselves 200 feet onton large spillway hydraulic radial gates at the Corps' Wolf Creek Dam, in Jamestown, Ky., July 24 to inspect 10 tainter gates for signs of corrosion or structural damage.

  • ‘PRIDE of the Cumberland’ keeps Lake Cumberland free of debris

    SOMERSET, Ky. (July 24, 2013) – The “PRIDE of the Cumberland,” a vessel operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District is hard at work keeping Lake Cumberland 101 miles of shorelines and waterways clean and free of logs, trash and debris.

  • NR 13-029: Public has two more chances this year to tour Old Hickory Lock and Dam

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (July 22, 2013) – There are two more chances this recreation season for the public to tour Old Hickory Lock and Dam. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites people of all ages to come out to the lake to tour the structures during the final two open house tours scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 and 31 beginning at 11 a.m. Guided tours of the structure are free to the public and approximately 60 minutes in length.

  • Electromagnetic particle ring passes through Kentucky Lock on circuitous journey

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (July 16, 2013) – A 50-foot electromagnetic particle ring passed a milestone July 16, 2013 on its circuitous journey from Long Island, N.Y., to Chicago as it exited the Kentucky Lock operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District.

  • NR 13-028: Corps offering public tours of Martins Fork Dam

    SMITH, Ky. (July 15, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public tours of Martins Fork Dam here Saturday, July 27 and Aug. 17, 2013. Visitors can choose from a 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. tour time. Guided tours of the structure are free to the public and are approximately 45 minutes in length.

  • NR 13-027: Hudson becomes 63rd commander of Nashville District

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 9, 2013) – Lt. Col. John L. Hudson took command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District during a change of command ceremony today at the Tennessee National Guard Armory. He becomes the 63rd commander in the district’s 125th anniversary year.

  • NR 13-026: Nashville District managing Cumberland after July 1-7 rain event

    NASHVILLE, TENN. (July 8, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Water Management staff is responding to the effects of unusually heavy rainfall in areas of the upper and mid-Cumberland River Basin July 1-7, 2013 and is managing the release of water from the system of dams on the Cumberland River.
