  • Lakes gain merit for significant water safety programs

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 21, 2012) – Despite tightened project budgets and limited resources, two Nashville District lakes were nationally and internationally recognized recently for their staffs’ creative and resourceful efforts to increase public safety during the 2011 recreation season.
  • Corps and LA County break ground for Tujunga Wash restoration

    LOS ANGELES--U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and Los Angeles County officials broke ground Feb. 22 on a project designed to restore degraded habitat in the San Fernando Valley. Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Public Works Deputy Director Mark Pestrella and District Commander Col. Mark Toy ceremonially turned dirt for the start of the $7 million Tujunga Wash Ecosystem Restoration project that will extend greening along the sides of a 3/4-mile stretch of concrete channel that carries runoff from Hansen Dam to the Los Angeles River.
  • New Leader Assumes Command of South Pacific Division

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ South Pacific Division welcomed its 53rd Commander, Col. Michael C. Wehr, as he took command on June 3 during a change of command ceremony at the Bay Model Regional Visitor Center in Sausalito, Calif. Wehr accepted the Division guidon from the Deputy Commander of the Corps of Engineers, Maj. Gen. Merdith “Bo” Temple, during the symbolic passing of the colors with Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Koontz and outgoing Division Commander Col. William Leady.
  • Sacramento District breaks ground on Fort Hunter Liggett solar array

    FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. -- Representatives from the Department of the Army, U.S. Rep. Sam Farr's district office, Fort Hunter Liggett and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District broke ground a one-megawatt solar array in a ceremony here April 8.
