  • Corps awards $2.5 million contract for Lock and Dam 2 guidewall repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $2.5 million contract to Dubuque Barge and Fleeting Service Company doing business as Newt Marine Service out of Dubuque, Iowa, to make repairs to the upper guidewall at Lock and Dam 2, near Hastings, Minnesota.
  • USACE begins barging fresh river water to Plaquemines Parish water treatment facilities

    River barges are filled with water from an upstream location and transported down river to be offloaded to onsite reservoirs at requesting water treatment facilities.  The initial bargeload of 500,000 gallons arrived at the Port Sulphur Water Treatment Facility at approximately 7:00 pm Sunday, October 1, 2023.  This water can be mixed with water at the intake to dilute salinity content to levels safe for water treatment.  Additional barges will be delivered as the need for upriver fresh water occurs.  USACE anticipates delivering water to the Port Sulphur and Pointe A La Hache facilities during the following week.
  • 21-006 Columbia and Snake river navigation locks will close March 6 for annual maintenance

    COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVERS, Ore. & Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland and Walla Walla districts will close all Corps navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers March 6 at 6 a.m. for regularly-scheduled annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs.

  • Floating barge with air curtain burner incinerates Lake Cumberland debris

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2020) – A new floating barge equipped with an air curtain burner began incinerating debris on Lake Cumberland this week, a move that will increase the efficiency of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District team charged with debris removal operations onboard the PRIDE of the Cumberland.

  • Statement on barges/676 Bridge

    On the afternoon of August 4th, high flows along the Schuylkill River dislodged the Crane Barge LEHIGH and two associated hopper barges from their moorings. The barges, which were secured between the Spring Garden Bridge and the Vine Street Expressway/676 Bridge, were pushed up against the Vine Street Expressway/676 Bridge. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) closed the bridge to traffic in both directions. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractor Atlantic Subsea, Inc. assessed the situation and worked on a plan to resolve the matter in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and the City of Philadelphia. When water levels subsided on Aug. 6, multiple tugboats were used to move the barges upriver just south of the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge. The operation was successfully completed around noon on Aug. 6. PennDOT then reopened the bridge to vehicle traffic in the afternoon. The barges were being used as part of a project to dredge portions of the Schuylkill River above the Fairmount Dam.
  • 101st ABN DIV Engineers and USACE Nashville District partner to load at Lock C for JRTC Rotation

    INDIAN MOUND, Tenn. (Jul 21, 2020) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District in partnership with Fort Campbell Ky., recently completed a $2 million project to upgrade the Lock C location on the Cumberland River in Indian Mound, Tenn. Upon completion of the project, USACE handed over operational control to the post.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2019) – A lock operator at Kentucky Lock received the U.S. Army Meritorious Civilian Service Medal this week from the commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.
