  • Corps crane operators complete crane proficiency training

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Feb 3, 2020) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, Operations Division personnel recently completed required 100-ton Crane Proficiency Certification training at Barkley Lock. All the employees currently have completed 50-ton certifications and operate cranes around the district.

  • NR 19-049: Bio-acoustic fish fence now operational at Barkley Lock

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Nov. 8, 2019) – Officials commissioned a bio-acoustic fish fence, an experimental project, during a ceremony today at Barkley Lock. Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell and Congressman James Comer, Kentucky 1st District, along with project partners, ceremonially inaugurated the BAFF system as part of a three-year evaluation to deter Asian carp from migrating through the navigation lock and further up the Cumberland River.

  • Sections of bio acoustic fish fence submerged at Barkley Lock

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2019) – Crews are submerging and installing sections of a bio acoustic fish fence on the downstream side of Barkley Lock this week as part of an experiment to deter the passage of Asian carp with a wall of bubbles, sound and light.

Officials addressed stakeholders and media today on the deployment of the bio-acoustic fish fence on the downstream side of the navigation lock and evaluation of the system’s ability to deter the movement of these fish.

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky., Tenn. (May 16, 2019) – Lt. Col. Cullen Jones, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander welcomed The Marine Board members from the Transportation Research Board of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering for a tour of the Kentucky Lock Addition Project at Kentucky Lake on the Tennessee River in Grand Rivers, Ky., to get a close overview of the construction.

  • NR 17-034: Barkley Dam will not reduce discharges as anticipated today

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2017) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District will not be reducing discharges at Barkley Dam today on the Cumberland River in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, as previously announced. The Louisville District reports that the wicket gates at Dam 52 on the Ohio River in Brookport, Illinois, were installed yesterday and navigation is expected to resume at Lock 52 this evening.

The event will now be held 11 a.m. at the Badget Playhouse Theater located at 1838 J. H. O’Brien Avenue in Grand Rivers, Ky.
