  • Army planners, Washington State agree to study potential future recreation and transportation services

    Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Washington State have entered into agreements to study recreation- and transportation-related services that could be needed if, in the future, Congress were to authorize the breach of the four lower Snake River dams.

  • Litigation stay agreement increasing Columbia River spill, begins

    After an agreement to stay the Columbia River Basin litigation for up to 10 years, federal water managers will begin spilling more water over basin dams this spring than in past years. In the agreement, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has committed to spill more water over spillways instead of through turbines during its annual “spring spill” operations at dams on the lower Snake and Columbia rivers as well as expanding spill in the fall and early spring.

  • USACE Plans Fish Survival Testing this Fall on the Second Improved Fish Passage Turbine

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District has started the installation process in Unit 1 for another adjustable blade turbine designed for improved fish passage. The Corps has been working diligently to decrease fish injury and improve survival rates through turbines designed for improved fish passage at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation and Bonneville Power Administration today released the Columbia River System Operations Final Environmental Impact Statement.     LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – All three dams on the lower Snake River in Washington that allow public vehicle crossings -- Lower Granite Lock and Dam, near Pomeroy; Little Goose, near Starbuck; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus -- will be closed to public access for crossing on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
