  • Gathright Dam pulse release set for Aug. 5

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., Wednesday, August 5 beginning at approximately 6 a.m. Water releases will gradually increase and peak at 3,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) by 9 a.m. The maximum surge will last two hours, begin to gradually decrease at 11 a.m., and return to 242 cfs by 1:30 p.m.

    COVINGTON, VA—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District will temporarily halt water releases from the Gathright Dam for a routine inspection of the outlet tunnel. The halt will occur from Feb. 25-27 and again from Mar. 1-3. The water release will be stopped daily at approximately 7 a.m. for up to six hours to allow for the inspection of the dam's outlet works.
