Lock operator returns home to Guam to support Typhoon Mawar recovery

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2023) – Old Hickory Lock Operator Anthony Certeza recently deployed to Guam in the aftermath of Typhoon Mawar, which devastated his native island in late May. He performed home inspections and literally assisted his own parents who lost power and needed his help.

RISEUP Program Launches to Help Temporarily Repair Metal Roofs

GUAM - The U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Office of the Governor, Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Mayor’s Council of Guam, have launched the Roofing Installation Support Emergency Utilization Program (RISEUP) to help temporarily repair metal roofs damaged by Typhoon Mawar.

USACE awards contract to increase Guam Memorial Hospital patient capacity for Alternate Care Facility use

Working in partnership with the government of Guam and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Honolulu District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) awarded a contract Sept. 18 to provide additional power capability and upgrades to rooms in Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) to meet the emergent need for increased patient capacity and care capability in Guam.

USACE, NAVFAC Marianas partner to assess Guam sites for potential alternate care facilities

In response to the spread of coronavirus in Guam, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Honolulu District and Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Marianas have combined efforts to perform seven initial planning and site assessments on Guam for potential conversion into alternate care facilities (ACFs). USACE is conducting technical planning and site assessments at Guam locations on mission assignment through FEMA, in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, and the government of Guam. Stringent COVID19 restrictions prevent USACE personnel travel throughout the Pacific region, so the Honolulu District requested direct assistance from NAVFAC Pacific and NAVFAC Marianas to provide engineering personnel support to accomplish the FEMA site assessment mission for Guam.

18-111 Sixteen Walla Walla District power team members return from mission in Guam; two relocate to Saipan to assist recovery efforts

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Sixteen members of Walla Walla District’s 18-member Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team (PRT) returned home during Sept. 13 and 14, after providing support to FEMA’s Typhoon Mangkhut emergency-response efforts in Guam and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), according to District emergency management officials. Both Guam and the CNMI are U.S. territories located east of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean. Two Power PRT members will remain to continue assisting FEMA’s temporary emergency power assistance mission.
