Bunnell Florida Wastewater Groundbreaking USACE
Bunnell Florida Wastewater Groundbreaking : Section 5061 East Central and Northeast Florida Environmental Infrastructure, Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2007, City of Bunnell, Florida ($5,000,000): The local sponsor for the project is the City of Bunnell, located in Flagler County, Florida. The City of Bunnell requested assistance under this authorization to modernize the current outdated Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF), increase capacity and improve deficiencies. With a population of 3,507 residents, nearly 24.2% of the residents live below the poverty level. Not only does the City of Bunnell have one of the highest unemployment rates in the State of Florida, but the community is also designated as a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern. The Bunnell WWTF is an activated sludge treatment facility with a permitted capacity of 0.60 million gallons per day (MGD) annual average daily flow (AADF). The City exceeded 50% capacity prior to the year 2014. The projected AADF is expected to exceed the permitted capacity of 0.60 MGD by the year 2024. To meet the immediate capacity needs, the project will improve existing facility deficiencies and enhance operational flexibility to a 1.0 MGD rated facility.
