Ice jams and ice jam related flooding cause damages including loss of life and property, structural damage, bed and bank erosion and scour, riprap failure, increased flood fighting and assistance costs, and environmental damage. New England District has worked with the states of Vermont and Connecticut to identify ice jam issues and possible mitigation techniques.
