Bio-acoustic fish fence expected to be operational this fall
Andrew Porterfield, fisheries technician with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, transports about 3,000 pounds of Asian Carp July 30, 2019 to the boat ramp below Barkley Dam in Grand Rivers, Ky. The fish were caught electrofishing and were donated in a public-private partnership to the Kentucky Fish Center in Eddyville, Ky. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Agency, U.S. Geological Survey and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are collaborating on the deployment of a bio-acoustic fish fence on the downstream side of Barkley Lock as part of a test of this sound deterrent to reduce the use of the locks by Asian Carp.
