The Oral History Guide (in standard and short versions) is a guide to the theory and practice of oral history that provides USACE employees who are planning an oral history program with some historical background and practical advice. Mission of the Office of History

The mission of the Office of History is to collect, document, interpret, disseminate, and preserve the history and heritage of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The office accomplishes its mission through research and writing, a field history program, an oral history program, an extensive research collection, and a historic artifact collection.

1.  I, __________________________, am voluntarily participating in an oral history interview conducted by ________________________ on the following date(s)   ______________________.

 
 

2.  I understand that the recordings(s), transcript(s), photograph(s), and any other materials resulting from this oral history will belong to the U.S. Government to be used in any manner, consistent with Federal law, deemed in the bests interests of the U.S. Army, as determined by the Chief, Office of History, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or his/her designees.

 
 

3.  I understand that I have the right to edit the transcript derived from this oral history within a time period of 120 days after receipt. The version including my edits will be considered the final version. If I choose not to edit or do not return the transcript within the 120 day period, the version edited by the interviewer will be considered final.

 
 

4.  I understand that the recording(s), transcripts, photographs(s), and other materials, and information and materials derived from them, may be made available to members of the public, in response to a subpoena, court order, or legal request, subject to the Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, and Department of the Army Security Program.

 
 

5.  I hereby expressly and voluntarily relinquish all rights and interests in the recording(s), transcripts(s), photographs (s), and any other materials resulting from the oral history to the U.S. Army. This grant, release, and discharge of rights to the U.S. Army is made without the expectation of compensation of any kind. This voluntary grant and release will not be made the basis of a future claim of any kind against the U.S. Government. Finally, I understand that this does not preclude my personal use of these materials, subject to any security restrictions.
