The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) delivers vital public and military engineering services to secure our nation, energize the economy, and reduce disaster risk.
USACE operates across two primary programs — Civil Works and Military Programs, spanning six core mission areas globally.
The Civil Works mission maintains 12,000 miles of commercial navigation channels and 926 harbors, operates over 600 dams, manages flood and storm damage reduction along the nation’s coastlines as well as along inland waterways. The Civil Works mission also works to balance the needs of the nation with those of the environment through the regulatory permitting program.
Additionally, USACE, as part of the National Response Framework, deploys personnel to assist in disaster response and recovery efforts, providing rapid public works and engineering support, which includes temporary emergency power, debris removal, temporary roofing and critical infrastructure assessments. Under its own authorities, USACE provides flood-fighting and coastal/shore protection assistance.
The Military Programs mission provides premier engineering, construction, real estate, stability operations, and environmental services for the Army, Air Force, other U.S. government agencies as well as foreign governments. USACE's workforce is spread across the country and in 110 foreign countries, providing reimbursable engineering expertise throughout the world. The programs USACE executes in one year can total over $20 billion and includes military construction projects on 280-plus installations as well as managing land title for over 36 million acres of real property for Army and Air Force installations and Army civil projects. USACE’s annual workload also includes more than $2 billion worth of environmental cleanup and quality work centered around cleaning up active and historic defense sites as well as providing environmental technical expertise to our Department of War and interagency partners in support of mission execution and modernization efforts.
