    PHILADELPHIA (November 10, 2014) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $57.6-million contract to the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company for a coastal and storm damage reduction project extending from the southern end of Ocean City to Strathmere and Sea Isle. The project, which entails the construction of a dune and a berm, or beach, in front of each community, is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Nov. 10, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will begin implementing mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) survey data technology along the Texas coast in November to survey dredging placement areas, assist with hydrographic surveys and collect data that will help analyze beach erosion.

The project will beneficially place dredged sand and install geotextile tubes on Egmont Key to help stabilize the beach and protect historic structures.

The project, which entails the construction of a 50-foot wide berm, or beach, is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Today, that infrastructure plays an integral part in saving taxpayers approximately $200,000 annually in dredging costs and keeps a segment of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway open for navigation.
