  • Corps’ Kansas City District activates Emergency Operations Center at “Emergency Watch” level

    In response to developing flood conditions on the Missouri River, the Kansas City District commander, Col. Doug Guttormsen, declared a flood emergency to exist within the Kansas City District. The District has activated their Emergency Operations Center to an Emergency Watch condition as of Wednesday evening, March 13, 2019.

  • NR 19-005: Wolf Creek Dam increasing releases to drawdown Lake Cumberland

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District plans to increase releases at Wolf Creek Dam in Jamestown, Ky., as soon as conditions allow in an effort to drawdown the water level at Lake Cumberland.

  • The Huntington District Housing Team Responds to Hurricane Florence

    The LRH Emergency Management team are working closely with FEMA and Wilmington District to aid in hurricane relief efforts. FEMA, in coordination with USACE have overhauled the previously laborious and more expensive method of installing mobile homes for personnel that were left homeless. The new process involves purchasing existing stock (new) recreational homes (travel trailers) and installing them on site. These units are easier to procure and transport, faster to install and locate the storm victim closer to their former residence ultimately promoting a sense of community and security while allowing easier access to assist in repairs to their home.

  • 18-050 Walla Walla District receives $3.3M supplemental funding for rehabilitation of flood-damaged levees

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Four levees damaged during the 2017 flood season, located within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District area of operations, received a total of approximately $3.3 million in cumulative funding for flood-related repairs under Public Law 115-123, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, signed into law February 9, 2018.

  • Corps awards $7.6 million contract for Santa Barbara County debris removal

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District awarded a $7.6 million contract to TFR Enterprises Inc., of Leander, Texas, Jan. 28, for emergency debris removal of the three Toro Debris Basins in Santa Barbara County to restore capacity and reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses.

  • USACE commanding general views emergency response to Santa Barbara mudslides

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general was in California Jan. 18 to visit the site of a deadly mudslide. Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite toured areas of Santa Barbara hit hard by the disaster that left 18 people dead and three missing.

    Over the past four months, Jim DeGraff spent just two weeks at home in Alaska. The rest of the time, he was in disaster areas, working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to help the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico recover from hurricanes Irma and Maria.

  • USACE supports marine debris removal in Puerto Rico (video)

    In coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is executing a marine debris mission at the Puerto Del Rey marina in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. This is the second marine debris mission to take place in the aftermath of hurricane Maria, with the first taking place before Christmas to remove the wrecks which were a threat to both the environment and navigation.
