(April 15, 2019) – First responders participated in an exercise at Center Hill Dam last week to coordinate actions that would be necessary if they had to respond to a scenario where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District could not operate the spillways during a high water event.

  • Thron earns Meritorious Civilian Service Medal

    Congratulations to Memphis District Biologist Mike Thron, who on yesterday, was presented with the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, by Mississippi Valley Division Commanding General and Mississippi River Commission President Maj. Gen. Diana Holland, for his outstanding leadership as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) coordinator on the Mississippi River Mainline Levees (MRL) Final Supplement II (Final SEIS II).
  • Rescue revetment task order awarded

    The Memphis District recently awarded a task order to restore existing revetment and repair over-steepened banks along the Mississippi River in Coahoma County, Mississippi, and Phillips County, Arkansas. A total of $1,344,000 was awarded on the current River Repairs IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity) Contract to Midwest Construction Company.
  • Memphis District celebrates New Madrid stormwater ditch replacement project with ribbon-cutting ceremony

    The Memphis District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a fully functioning stormwater ditch replacement project in the New Madrid, Missouri area, on Apr. 12, 2021. A $3.4 million contract was awarded for two work areas to Tarpan Construction LLC., on Aug. 29, 2019.
  • Industry Day at the Far East District

    USAG Humphreys, Republic of Korea - Far East District (FED), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), held a virtual Industry Day at District Headquarters, Mar. 17. Industry Day is an event held by a Department of Defense (DoD) Program Management Office (PMO) to present the plans for a current or future bid to representatives from the contractor community.
  • Army Corps Flood-Control Project Provides Outdoor Classroom for West Point Cadets

    A group of 40 Cadets from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, traveled to central New Jersey for an afternoon of hands-on construction and engineering learning at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Green Brook Flood Risk Management Project.

  • Winter won't stop work on L-536 levee repairs

    Despite winter conditions, work continues on the L-536 levee setback south of Rock Port, Missouri. Repairs to the original in-line portion of the levee are scheduled to be substantially complete within the next month. Construction of the levee setback portion of the project continues despite the freezing temperatures.
  • FishPass project to begin construction

    DETROIT – A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor is set to commence construction on the FishPass Project in Traverse City, Michigan the week of January 18. The contractor will begin by installing fencing, removing trees and preparing the site. “This milestone represents years of hard work from many dedicated partners,” said Marty Colburn, City Manager of Traverse City. “We ask the community to be patient with our construction partners as this exciting project advances. Soon, there will be dedicated viewing sites set up for the public to watch FishPass take shape.”
  • Army Corps of Engineers announces publication of 2021 Nationwide Permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today the publication in the Federal Register of the 2021 Nationwide Permits (NWPs). The 12 reissued and four new 2021 NWPs in the rule are necessary for work in streams, wetlands and other waters of the United States under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899.
  • WRDA 2020 authorizes Bubbly Creek construction

    On Dec. 21, 2020, Congressional leaders introduced a fiscal year 2021 omnibus appropriations bill that would provide $1.4 trillion in spending for government agencies, with the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 2020 included.
  • Army Corps of Engineers announces finalization of nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it reissued 12 and issued four new nationwide permits (NWPs) for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899.
  • Eagle Watch Event at General Dean Recreation Area

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the annual Eagle Watch event at the General Dean Recreation Area between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 30th, 2021. The World Bird Sanctuary will have a live Bald Eagle on display for public viewing in a heated tent. Please visit any time during these hours to help prevent large gatherings. The event will be different from years prior and be a meet and greet style event. Masks will be required when entering the tent. The General Dean Recreation Area is also one of the best spots around Carlyle Lake to view Bald Eagles in their natural habitat. Those attending the event are encouraged to bring a mask, binoculars or spotting scope, and dress accordingly for the weather as it is an outdoor event.
  • Upper Barataria Louisiana Study virtual public meetings scheduled

    USACE, New Orleans District has scheduled two virtual public meetings to gather input regarding the re-release of the Upper Barataria Basin, La. Feasibility Study with Integrated EIS. The meetings will be held via WebEx and simultaneously streamed on the district’s Facebook page on Jan. 12 and 13. All public comments received will be addressed and considered through Jan. 25, 2021.
  • Corps to begin dredging project at Port of Hueneme

    The Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District plans to dredge the Port of Hueneme main channel starting Jan. 5 with a projected completion date of March 27.
  • Report to Congress on Everglades Restoration Momentum Now Available

    The Report to Congress on the progress of the restoration of America’s Everglades is now available to the public on the Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District website. This report, jointly filed by the Secretaries of the Army and Interior, is the fourth in a series of periodic reports required under the Water Resources Development Act of 2000.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice SWL 20-78 Lock Closure Notice Norrell Lock (No. 1) NM 10.3

    MKARNS - Norrell Lock (No. 1) NM 10.3 will be closed to navigation traffic on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 and will reopen at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th, 2021.
