The Bay Model Visitor Center is set to open its doors March 5.

The Bay Model Visitor Center (BMVC) plans to reopen to the public this Friday. The facility, which is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District, has been closed since March 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s hard to believe almost a year has passed since we welcomed visitors through these doors,” said Chris Gallagher, BMVC park manager. “My staff and I are thrilled to once again turn on the tides to the model and offer a one-of-kind learning experience here in Sausalito.”

In order to ensure a safe atmosphere for all visitors, BMVC staff will require masks be worn at all times inside the facility. Also, no more than six people to a group should come together. Finally, headsets and guided tours will not be available, so visitors are encouraged to check out the BMVC website to download the self-guided map and watch a short orientation video.

The Bay Model Visitor Center is home to a working hydraulic model of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta system and is a fully accessible education center owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  It provides a unique opportunity to view the complete bay-delta system at a glance.
