  • 13-058 Corps invites public comments on lower Snake River planting plan environmental assessment

    SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District invites public comments on an environmental assessment (EA) for habitat improvements at locations along the lower Snake River. Comments are due by Sept 6. The Corps is proposing to plant native vegetation on three Habitat Management Units (HMUs) along the lower Snake River to create or enhance approximately 125 acres of wildlife habitat to help meet the terrestrial wildlife mitigation requirements of the Lower Snake River Fish and Wildlife Compensation Plan. Proposed planting sites are located in Garfield, Whitman and Walla Walla Counties, along the banks of the lower Snake River. The three sites proposed for habitat enhancement are: Ayer, Swift Bar, and Willow Bar HMUs.

  • Los Angeles District breaks ground for new project on Davis-Monthan AFB

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District joined with officials and contractors at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson Aug. 15 to break ground for the EC-130H Simulator and Operations facility. The new facility will provide space for the new EC-130H flight deck simulator, new EC-130H mission crew simulator and one relocated EC-130H mission crew simulator among its many benefits. The project includes demolition, grading, parking, support utilities, landscaping, and interior finishes.

    Lt. Gen. Thomas Bostick, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/Chief of Engineers and Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (for Civil Works) visited New York City and observed USACE coastal projects aimed at restoring coastal storm risk reduction projects due to Hurricane Sandy.
  • Rathbun Lake to briefly increase water releases

    CENTERVILLE, Iowa— The week of August 26, 2013, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be increasing releases from Rathbun Lake in order to support ongoing efforts to revise the Chariton River Basin, Rathbun Lake Regulation Manual, which was last edited in 1980. Releases will be increased from 400 cubic feet per second to 2,500 cfs throughout the day, beginning the morning of Monday, August 26th. The 2,500 cfs releases will be maintained through Thursday, August 29 and then reduced by the end of the day back to approximately 400 cfs.

  • 13th Annual Kaskaskia Watershed Association Showcase

    CARLYLE LAKE - The Kaskaskia Watershed Association, Inc. will hold its 13th Annual Showcase on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Kaskaskia River Marina located in New Athens, Illinois. The event is open to the public and hosted by the Kaskaskia Watershed Association, Inc. (KWA) and the Lower Kaskaskia Stakeholder, Inc (LKSI). Registration and lunch begin at 11:00 a.m.; a $15.00 registration fee covers the cost of lunch and refreshments. Immediately following lunch, a three hour barge tour to view areas along the Kaskaskia River will be offered.
