The Memphis District's skilled tradesmen are at it again, demoing and remodeling one building at a time until they've covered every structure in need of a makeover at Ensley Engineer Yard.

Recently, a team of mechanics, electricians, carpenters, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and revetment workers all got together to completely renovate the Tractor Shop’s breakroom, literally from the ground up.

The crew said they started demolition back in August of 2020 and then wrapped up construction on Mar. 8, 2021.

They completely gutted the room, as it required new plumbing for the sinks they installed, a new HVAC system, and a new ceiling. They even extended the room by making it 10 feet longer. Not only that, but the breakroom comes complete with new microwaves, a stovetop oven, and a flat screen TV.

Additionally, employees now have a locker room to store their belongings while they work.

Yes, the breakroom needed remodeling, but the crew said the renovation was also prompted by the fact that eight more mechanics had been hired over the last year, which is more than they’ve had in a long time, if ever. Ensley now has 11 mechanics total.

Congratulations to the following for completing this project: Chief of Shops Marvin Roddy, Assistant Chief of Shops Terrence Brown, Mechanic Leader Robert Woods, Electrician Leader Cory Roberts, Pipe Shop Leader Brian Libby, Carpenter Joseph Clay Hurt, Electrician Jason Pruett, Pipefitter Roosevelt Williamson, HVAC Technician Javeros Pitchford, HVAC Technician Zachary Lee, Revetment Heavy Equipment Operator James Henderson, Revetment Mechanic Eric Gillespie, and Revetment Worker D’Marcus Hampton.

Again, excellent job to all the members of the team responsible for getting the remodeling done. The breakroom looks twenty times better than before, and it goes without saying that breaks will likely be much more enjoyable than ever before.
