The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers delivered its Fiscal Year 2020 Work Plan to Congress for the Army Civil Works program Feb. 10.

The plan includes more than $130 million in federal funds for investigations, construction, and the operation and maintenance of civil works projects in the Los Angeles District.

Of that total, $52 million, has been allocated to final construction and closeout for the Rio de Flag flood risk management project, a cost-share effort with the city of Flagstaff, Arizona.

"We are very excited to be funded to complete Rio de Flag and continue efforts on several other critical projects in the district," said Deputy District Engineer, David Van Dorpe.

Another project, the Whittier Narrows dam safety modification, is fully funded for preconstruction engineering and design at $8.3 million and appears in the FY 2021 budget proposal at $384.9 million for construction.

"The funding in the Army Civil Works FY 2020 Work Plan will continue to develop and maintain American water-related infrastructure, which provides safety and economic growth for our nation," said Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, R. D. James. "This funding also invests in the partnership between local communities and the Corps that develop, manage, restore and protect our water resources."

Other key projects fully funded for FY 2020 are the Los Angeles River ecosystem restoration project at $1.9 million to complete preconstruction engineering and design phase and the East San Pedro Bay ecosystem restoration study at $565,000.
