U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on potential future changes to the nationwide permits

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced on March 16 that it is seeking input from all interested parties on ways to increase the efficiency of the nationwide permit program.

Corps releases annual notice to all residents within Mississippi River Floodways

USACE, New Orleans District disseminated its annual notice to residents within Mississippi River floodways. The notice serves as a reminder to those that live, operate and/or do business within these floodways that there is a risk that they may experience flooding if the floodways are activated.

Upper Barataria Louisiana Study virtual public meetings scheduled

USACE, New Orleans District has scheduled two virtual public meetings to gather input regarding the re-release of the Upper Barataria Basin, La. Feasibility Study with Integrated EIS. The meetings will be held via WebEx and simultaneously streamed on the district’s Facebook page on Jan. 12 and 13. All public comments received will be addressed and considered through Jan. 25, 2021.

Temporary Closure: Eads St. between Abundance St. and Treasure St.

Eads Street between Abundance Street and Treasure Street will be closed on Saturday October 31, 2020 while temporary roadway repairs are being performed. This temporary closure is related to construction of new box culverts to enhance drainage in the area.

USACE reactivates Blue Roof program for homes damaged by Hurricanes Laura/Delta

USACE is continuing to install blue roofs on homes damaged by Hurricane Laura. However, if you had a Hurricane Laura temporary blue roof installed by the USACE in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vernon parishes, and it was damaged by Hurricane Delta, the USACE will assess its condition, and, if appropriate, replace it. ALL eligible homeowners within the six affected parishes are eligible to sign-up for a FREE temporary roof through Oct. 24, 2020.

Operation Blue Roof sign-up for Hurricane Laura extended

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is extending the deadline to apply for Operation Blue Roof to Sept. 30, 2020. The original application deadline was set to expire Sept. 21. Contract awarded for Carrollton Floodwall Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for the Mississippi River Carrollton Floodwall project in New Orleans. The $8.9M construction contract was awarded to APC Construction, LLC of Algiers, La. Construction is expected to begin in late September and be completed by March 2022.

Crawfish Season extended at Indian Bayou

In response to higher than normal water levels in the area, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has elected to extend the crawfish season for one month within the Indian Bayou area. The season end date is now August 31, 2020.
