FORT HAMILTON, N.Y. — At an Assumption of Command ceremony July 31, 2012, Col. Kent D. Savre assumed command of the North Atlantic Division office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He succeeds Col. Christopher J. Larsen who served as commander since Brig. Gen. Peter "Duke" DeLuca left the position in September.

Presiding over the ceremony was Maj. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, Deputy Commanding General and Deputy Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

From his Brooklyn headquarters, Savre will direct a 3,500-member workforce and a multi-billion-dollar annual program in civil works, military construction and environmental restoration that spans 14 states throughout the Northeast as well as overseas in Europe and Africa. These activities are executed through six district offices located in Concord, MA; New York City; Philadelphia; Baltimore; Norfolk, VA; and Wiesbaden, Germany.

"I am extremely impressed with the Division's reputation, mission and people," said Savre during the event. "I am proud, honored and humbled to serve on your team. And I am committed to sustaining the Division's exceptional reputation of service to the citizens of this great nation."

Savre most recently served as Director, Office of the Chief of Engineers in the Pentagon. Other assignments include serving as Assistant Corps Engineer for I Corps, Fort Lewis, Wash.; Commander of the 864th Engineer Battalion in Iraq; Director of the Counter Explosive Hazards Center at Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Commander of the 36th Engineer Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas; as well as numerous other stateside and overseas combat and staff assignments.

A native of Edina, Minn., Colonel Savre received his commission in the United States Army as an engineer officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in July 1985. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a Master of Science degree in Construction Management from Arizona State University, and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
