  • Engineering Science in Okinawa

    It’s not uncommon to find members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) interacting with students in a school setting. This is part of the USACE science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) initiative, worldwide. Overseas in Japan, one would think you could find America’s Engineers working together with children at any number of Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools as well, and they are. Engineers from the USACE’s Japan Engineer District work directly with DoDEA students and classes, promoting STEM and engineering in general.
  • Coming full circle: three Kansas City District employees awarded at 2023 BEYA Conference

    Every year the Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference is held and honors professionals for their excellence in the STEM field. This year, the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers celebrated three employees who were awarded at the conference, held on Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, 2023, in Washington, D.C. The winners from the Kansas City District were Beatrice Nwafor, LyTreese Lee and Arthur Saulsberry. Although all three winners are at different stages in their careers, being recognized and awarded at the 2023 BEYA STEM Conference was a full circle experience for each of them.
  • ERDC announces new partnerships with Vicksburg Catholic School and Porter’s Chapel Academy

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) recently signed an educational partnership agreement with two Vicksburg, Mississippi schools— Vicksburg Catholic School (VCS) and Porter’s Chapel Academy (PCA). These agreements ensure collaboration and the exchange of ideas between ERDC and the schools.
  • USACE Vicksburg District sponsors SAME math competition for local students

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District and the Vicksburg chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) hosted a math competition for local students Jan. 26 at the district’s headquarters in Vicksburg, Miss. The math competition was for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Students from St. Aloysius High School, Porter's Chapel Academy, Academy of Innovation (AOI), Bovina Elementary, Bowmar Elementary, Beechwood Elementary, Redwood Elementary and St. Francis participated in the event.
