  • The Dewey Short Visitor Center opens for 2024 recreation season

    With Spring in the air, the Dewey Short Visitor Center has opened for the 2024 recreation season. Located near Branson, Missouri, the Dewey Short has been called the "crown jewel" of Table Rock Lake. Three stories tall, with an impressive glass and steel façade facing the lake, the Dewey Short is not only a beautiful building, but also one of the most popular visitors centers in all the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

    Dams are often synonymous with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Responsible for more than 740 dams across the nation, USACE and its Dam Safety Program is responsible ensuring these structures provide many significant benefits to the nation while also reducing risks to people, property, and the environment. Central to this effort in the Southwestern Division are the engineers working for the Dam Safety Production Center.

    Ray Fish was recently selected as the 2021 SWL Engineer of the Year for the Little Rock District. Fish is a registered professional electrical engineer in the state of Arkansas, a member of the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the International Society for Automation.

  • Beaver Lake – supporting NWA growth and protecting the White River Basin against flooding

    Created after the 1966 completion of the Beaver Dam, the lake was part of a comprehensive flood control plan meant to protect the White River Basin. Working as a single system, the lakes of the basin were meant to reduce both the frequency and severity of floods both in the region and downstream as the White eventually joins the Mississippi River.
