Wallisvill Lake Project now accepting duck Blind applications

WALLISVILLE, Texas (May 14, 2020) – The USACE Galveston District, Wallisville Lake Project, Waterfowl Management Program is accepting seasonal duck blind applications from May 1 to June 30 for the upcoming 2020/2021 waterfowl hunting season.

Applicants must apply for the duck blind drawing by filling out and submitting the 2020-2021 duck blind drawing application on the Wallisville Lake Waterfowl Management Program website, located at http://www.swg.usace.army.mil/Locations/Wallisville-Lake-Project-Office. No other form of application (written cards, letters, etc.) will be accepted. The following information must be accurately entered in the application form: Full name as it appears on your driver’s license, mailing address, email, phone number (where you can be contacted during/after duck hunting season) and driver’s license number. All applicants must be at least 18 years old, and only one application per household address will be accepted.

“A random drawing will be held July 1, 2020, to select permit winners,” said Mark Tyson, natural resource specialist with USACE Galveston District. “Permit selectees will be notified in mid-July by email containing additional instructions for obtaining their official duck blind permits.”

According to Tyson, a blind location-selection meeting will be held in August 2020. All blind selectees must attend this meeting to select a blind location, be issued a duck blind permit, and a USACE hunting permit. No make-up meetings or appointments will be offered to select a blind or to receive a permit.

Local, state and federal laws are enforced on all USACE-managed lands at the Wallisville Lake Project. Tyson urges hunters to know and understand the rules and regulations before heading to their favorite hunting spots and offers the following guidance:

Located 40 miles east of downtown Houston at the Trinity River and Interstate 10, the Wallisville Lake Project is designed primarily to prevent the intrusion of saltwater up the Trinity River in order to conserve fresh water and to protect fresh water intakes for local municipalities, including the City of Houston. In addition to protecting the fresh water supply, the project supports navigation of commercial and recreational boats, serves as a water supply, is a favorite recreational destination among Houstonians and supports an array of fish and wildlife habitats.

The Wallisville Lake staff advises hunters to check with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department concerning state regulations, hunting seasons and bag limits and to contact the Wallisville Lake Project Office at (409) 389-2285 or view the USACE regulations at: http://www.swg.usace.army.mil/Locations/WallisvilleLakeProjectOffice.aspx for more information.
