SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Right of Entry (ROE) application period for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, USACE, Blue Roof program has come to an end as of Jan. 10.

USACE estimates that 68,000 roofs are eligible for a temporary blue roof with more than 39,000 temporary roofs already installed across Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria devastated the island in September 2017.

“There are many unique challenges here, but with more than 50 percent of the work complete we’re committed to finishing the work and are always looking for ways to increase the rate of blue roof installations each day,” said Mike Feldmann, mission manager for the Blue Roof program.

USACE performed critical assessments as requested by FEMA and is actively installing temporary roofs in every municipality across the island.

Although USACE will no longer accept new requests, residents can still call the USACE island-wide call center for questions related to ROEs on file at 1-888-ROOF-BLU.

Since the ROE deadline has passed, residents still in need of roof repairs are encouraged to call the FEMA Disaster Helpline at 800-621-3362 to learn about additional roofing options. Even if they don’t qualify for FEMA assistance, they may be referred to voluntary agencies who can assist them with repairs. They may also call their local municipality to request temporary tarps for immediate roofing issues.

During the entire application timeframe more than 77,000 Rights of Entry requests were made to USACE with about 68,000 of them being eligible for the program.

For more information call 888-ROOF-BLU or 888-7663-258.
