U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District to Close Offices for Hurricane Irma

Charleston, S.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District will close their downtown headquarters office on Hagood Avenue on Monday and Tuesday, September 11 and 12, in anticipation of Hurricane Irma’s arrival.

The Charleston District’s field offices should follow these procedures:
• Columbia Regulatory Office: follow Fort Jackson’s operating schedule
• Fort Jackson Resident Office: follow Fort Jackson’s operating schedule
• Construction and Survey Annex: follow Joint Base Charleston’s operating schedule
• Conway Regulatory Office: follow District headquarters operating schedule
• St. Stephen Powerhouse: follow District headquarters operating schedule, except for emergency personnel
• Savannah River Site: follow SRS operating schedule.

The Charleston District activated their Emergency Operations Center this morning and will be relocating it to the St. Stephen Powerhouse on Friday morning. Emergency response will be coordinated as needed and directed through the Federal Emergency Management Office. The Charleston District remains ready to support in whatever way is requested. The Charleston District is prepared to respond in debris removal, temporary roofing, commodities distribution, and infrastructure assessment missions. After the storm, the Charleston District will begin surveying the federal channel for any obstructions in order to help open the port as quickly as possible.

Employees should call the District hotline next week at 1-866-329-8005 to determine additional operating hours. Additionally, employees need to follow all reporting procedures with their supervisors and contact their supervisor every day by noon in order to notify them of their safety.
