A Red-whiskered Bulbul, a non-native fruit-eating bird on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, is pictured March 29, 2019. Research by U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) and collaborators has demonstrated the importance of non-native birds for dispersal of native endangered plants in Hawaii. The collaborative efforts of the ERDC-CERL’s team help establish the Department of Defense’s ability to properly train on military installations and balance ecosystem health.
